Choreographer and philosopher Annemijn Rijk creates sensory, experimental productions that question our status quo and bring the viewer back to the core of our humanity. Body of Art is the platform that realizes her ideas and productions. The unfiltered, communicative body, and the way in which our body perceives the world and thus creates our reality, forms a basis in all her work.

Annemijn: ‘Looking at the world around me, as a maker I am looking for ‘in-between space’, space for change, for the realization that things can be different. Playing on the sensory experience, adjusting the way in which we perceive the world, and bringing the audience back to their core, their own body, are methods that I use for this.’

Annemijn works in what she calls the ‘Grey Space’, the artistic space and methodology that she defined for her Master thesis in philosophy as the place where the artist, artwork and audience jointly bring a work to life through embodied interaction. The body of the audience is actively approached on a deeply embodied level through the sensory-immersive form of her work.

Below is a selection from the work of Annemijn Rijk / Body of Art:

For Yellow Horizon (2024), choreographer and philosopher Annemijn Rijk and scenographer Theun Mosk investigated the principles of spatial, sensory and physical disorientation. Yellow Horizon is not a standard performance, but an experience, a ritual in fact, that makes your senses falter. Re:Born (2020), a collaboration with the young filmmaker and director Fleur Bax, is a dance film about getting up and reclaiming the body that has been harmed. Especially for the exhibition ‘Soulmates’ of the Stedelijk Museum Breda, consisting of photos by Mous Lamrabat, Robbert Mapplethorpe and Celine van Balen, Annemijn created the audio experience Wander/ Wonder (2025). In this live experience, you let a number of works of art speak to you in an embodied way.
