Performance collective Rotor company creates physical, visual performances about the meaning and meaninglessness of life, exploring the boundaries of the human body. The collective was formed during Hidde Aans-Verkade and Koen van der Heijden’s graduation show at the AHK’s Mime School. Their collaboration emerged from a shared fascination in our magical ability to lose ourselves in fantasy through the body; for exploring the extremities of the physical human body: the myth of Sisyphus.
In 2017 they created The Place To Be, a performance for which they received the 3Package Deal Award from the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst and Bureau Broedplaatsen leading to a tour in Het Debuut by Rudolphi Producties. In early 2018, Rick Busscher joined the team as producer.
In 2018, a second version of the performance The Place To Be was made for festival De Parade (2018). There ROTOR was noticed by VOÏSZ, a vocal music group from Utrecht. Together they shaped the concept of a Choir Concert: Touch or Tune (2019). Also in 2019, ROTOR created the performance Rushing Faces together with DOX Utrecht: a city tour through downtown Utrecht with dance and performance.
Schweigman& supports Rotor in developing their work as an independent company, supporting them in co-production with partners and with international residencies and collaborations. For 2021-2024, Rotor has several productions planned, including Erosion and Running Landscapes.
