Sucked into an endless tunnel, the audience find their way in an ambulant rhythm. Each step drawing closer to the inevitable, the outside world drifting further away. In Curve visual artist Cocky Eek, sound designer Martin Franke and theatre-maker Boukje Schweigman present a dizzying, disorienting journey which brings together light, material, sound and architectural form. Curve is an installation, a complete experience in a bewildering magical world.
Collaboration
Schweigman&’s style connects with the visual and musical style of telling employed by Het Houten Huis theatre company. Boukje Schweigman and Elien van den Hoek, artistic director of Het Houten Huis, often worked together when they were students and they were both eager to produce another show together. In Curve, Schweigman&’s spatial, tactile approach connects with the poetic, emotionally-charged musicality of Het Houten Huis. Martin Franke’s music is a perfect medium with which to transport the audience on Curve’s circular journey. He developed a unique sound composition specially adapted to the design of the installation. The audience is immersed in a disorienting experience with pulsating landscapes.
After Schweigman&’s whirling body in Wervel (2005) and the rotating blades of Wiek (2009), Curve (2015) is the third performance in which the audience is literally transported in a circular movement.
